Workshop Description:

Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) is internationally recognized for its approach to positively engaging men through healthy masculinity in the prevention of sexual and domestic violence. During the past 20 years MCSR has reached more than 60 million men and boys through its pioneering youth development programs, public education campaigns, trainings, and presentations.

Through a day of theoretical discussions, interactive group exercises, role-playing, and multi-media presentations, the “Mobilizing Men and Boys through Healthy Masculinity” day-long training will present participants with a framework to positively construct masculinity and to motivate men’s engagement in challenging the attitudes and behaviors that support sexual and domestic violence.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants in this workshop will learn how to:

  • explain ways unhealthy masculinity negatively affects men and boys’ lives and their relationships with the prevention of sexual and domestic violence
  • explain the benefits of healthy masculinity for men and boys and for their participation in the prevention of sexual and domestic violence
  • use healthy masculinity to engage and mobilize men and boys

Presenter Biography

Patrick McGann, PhD – Dr. McGann serves as Director of Strategy & Planning for Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) where he creates effective long term and short term strategy and planning for current and future developments regarding gender-based violence prevention. Over the course of 20 years, he has worked extensively with the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Defense. He has trained at organizations, agencies, and schools across the country and regularly presented at conferences. In 2012, he co-created the Healthy Masculinity Action Project, which started an international healthy masculinity movement.
